A solar hot water panel is a solar
water heater that uses the sun's energy to heat a
fluid, which
is used to transfer the heat to a heat storage vessel. In the home, for
example, potable water would be heated and then stored in a hot water tank.
Geo-Thermal
A geothermal exchange heat pump, also known as a ground source
heat pump or GSHP, is a
heat pump
that uses the
Earth as either a heat source, when operating in heating mode, or a
heat sink
when operating in cooling mode. (see also
heat exchanger /
heat pump)
Wind Power
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into more useful forms,
usually electricity using
wind turbines.
Passive Solar
Passive solar technologies convert sunlight into usable heat, cause
air-movement for ventilation or cooling, or store heat for future use,
without the assistance of other energy sources. Technologies that use a
significant amount of conventional energy to power pumps or fans are
classified as
active solar technologies. Some passive systems use a very small amount
of conventional energy to control dampers, shutters, night insulation, and
other devices that enhance solar energy collection, storage, and use.

Proper Insulation (or Superinsulation)
Superinsulation is an approach to building design, construction, and
retrofitting. A superinsulated house is intended to be heated predominantly
by intrinsic heat sources (waste heat generated by appliances and the
body heat
of the occupants), without using
passive solar building design techniques or large amounts of
thermal mass, and with very small amounts of backup heat.
